Case study information

Following successful trials with other primary schools in the Bradford area including Heaton and Shirley Manor involving Year 6 students, our plan is to work towards implementing the ‘identity and cultural diversity' and 'community participation’ within our school (taken from cross-curricular dimensions in the  Planning Guide to Schools).

This will ensure the pupils are well placed to become a focal point of their community and develop wider community cohesion in the process.

Community Project

One of their plans, incorporating Mums and Dads at the school will be to create a ‘Where to Eat Guide’ and this will involve students working with parents to complete a mini-survey. The completed publication will be sent to all parents at the school and the final listing distributed around the community, including the library and local shops.

It is hoped that working with active parents at the school, we can use this experience to tackle a wider range of other projects including; encouraging more family outdoor activity outside the school (e.g. listing local walks and places to visit within the community) and undertaking other eco-friendly tasks involving wider community participation.
